We explore the classical origins of the western tradition and consider issues such as fate, myth, divination, magic, ritual and enchantment, and raise questions concerning the place of traditional practices in the modern world, including critiques of astrology. HPCA Researching Contemporary Cosmologies Students design and conduct a simple research project investigating contemporary attitudes to astrology, astronomy or cosmology, and explore such issues as reflexivity, the insider-outsider debate and the role of the researcher in the research.
Students complete a supervised research project on a subject of their choice within the MA's remit and then write a 15, word dissertation. For the Postgraduate Certificate, you take one compulsory module and one optional module. This module focuses on western astrology from its earliest origins to the present day, but the lessons we draw can apply to other cultures.
We look at such issues as reform in the theory and practise of astrology, and students analyse primary source documents as part of their assessment. This module explores the theory, practice and experience of sacred space. We ask such questions is some spaces and places sacred, or are all sacred?
Students undertake a research project investigating a place which is meaningful to them. HPCA Cosmology, Magic and Divination Students explore the divinatory and magical practices of the classical world, paying attention to modern theories of magic and with an emphasis on the reading of classical philosophers and practitioners. Students who wish to have the option of undertaking a research project in skyscape archaeology archaeoastronomy.

Some of our modules offer the chance to pursue a research project, and the 15, word dissertation is based on personal research, worked out and conducted under the direction of our expert staff. Each module is assessed by 7, words of written work. For example, some modules require one short essay of 1, words and a longer one of 6, words, normally due in week 10 to In other modules, the first essay may be 3, words and the second 4, words, for example. Assessment requirements, lengths and due dates can vary from module to module. The shorter essays may be a critical review of a piece of writing or be picked from a choice of two titles.
For longer essays, there is a wider choice of titles. In some modules, the title and subject is negotiated with the course tutor. Each is then returned with comments from either one or two tutors, and students are offered the chance to have a tutorial via Skype in order to discuss the comments.
Students who take the entire MA then go on to write a 15,word dissertation based on a piece of independent research on a topic chosen by the student in discussion with the module tutor, and other appropriate members of staff. If you have a degree in UK grading , then we may advise you to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma, and you can then progress to the MA after successful completion of the six taught modules. If you fall into this category we will consider your for entry to the Postgraduate Certificate two modules and on successful completion of these, you will be eligible to progress to the MA. Lastly, if you wish to study as an Occasional student then you may fall into any of the above categories.
Most of our students take the MA as an end in itself because they love the subject. Some go on to study for PhDs, either with us or at other universities. Another choice you might want to look into is Communications.
Because you have an eye for beauty, perhaps Interior Design. Or because you have a different way of seeing things, something like Psychology would be a good major to consider, too. Marketing is also up your alley. Your best trait is your ability to nurture others. You also are really good at taking care of others. Since wellness is important for your sign, perhaps a Pre-Med route would be good for you. Political Science , for example, can help set you up for a role in the government President, anyone?
And your research skills would also be put to good use in a Journalism major plus your desire to have everything right would make you a great editor.
Journalism is also a good choice since you know how to be unbiased.
