Mrs Clothier asked the public to be cautious on the roads over the weekend with what is expected to be a significant increase in motorbikes in local traffic. The Ulysses Motorcycle Club welcomes older motorcyclists aged 40 years and over and prides in being the largest social club in Australia. The group aims to provide ways in which older motorcyclists can get together for companionship and mutual support. Showing by example that motorcycling can be an enjoyable and practical activity for riders of all ages and drawing to the attention of public and private institutions to the needs and views of older riders.
All rides will have a ride leader and a tail-end Charlie will always stay at the back of the group so that everyone can ride at their own pace. We will also use corner marshals when the ride leader thinks it is required. The rider immediately behind the leader will stop and wait on a corner if the ride leader indicates by pointing to the corner and will remain on the corner directing other riders until tail end Charlie goes past.
The system works well if adhered to and lets everyone ride in confidence and that they will not get lost even if they cannot see any other riders. Details in the Riding On Magazine. After a bit of socialising, it was time for the feast that our hosts had organised. We started off with prawn cocktails, and then for main course had a selection of roast meats and vegetables. To finish off, we had pudding with custard, cream and ice cream. Throughout the night there was much socialising and the stories just got better and better as the pile of empties got bigger.
Mick got a lot of unwanted attention and was the centre of many jokes for buying a Harley, but he knew it was because we were all jealous and, at one stage, we realised that there were more Harley owners than any other brand in attendance. Terry scored a 9.

Tea time saw us in the pub for what can only be described as an excellent meal. Happy hour was in progress, so we made the most of that as well. After tea, back to camp for more drinks and social time together.
Most were in bed by. Saturday: Saturday morning dawned with lovely weather and we all enjoyed a hearty cooked breakfast. Christine and Ray had put together a scavenger hunt around the town, so some decided to tackle this whilst others climbed to the monument up on the side of Mount Remarkable. By then our numbers had swollen to around After lunch, Gerry led a ride of about ten bikes to Wirrabara then back through Orroroo. Whilst they were away, we went on the scavenger hunt. We all got together around 4.
Our numbers were now 29 including two from Adelaide. Once again, an excellent huge meal was on offer, and around 9. Some amazing answers when you have had a few drinks. Not everyone took part, but we all enjoyed ourselves. Bruce had brought his CD player for the music and most were in bed by around Sunday: Most were up fairly early and, again, a cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs, baked beans, mushrooms with toast and coffee was enjoyed by all.
We had cleaned, packed up and were ready to go by around Note: Who went for his shower, stripped off, adjusted the water temp and realised that he had his camera bag with him instead of his washing gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Conclusion: What a fabulous weekend! The committee wanted to do something different this year for our Christmas show, and I think it was a resounding success. One member commented that when he rode into camp he was amazed to see everyone sitting around in one big group enjoying themselves.

Wednesday Rides leave the parking bay in the centre of Kadina Park at 9. Please contact Clive Ford on before any Wednesday ride to get the latest information. The venue for the ride this year was the Gawler Caravan Park, which was easy walking distance to the hotels that we used for meals. The attendance for meals was bolstered by members who were not riding, but opted to join us for the social aspect, which was very pleasing. This gave everyone a chance to ride some very good twisty roads, which I believe was very well received by the Eyre Peninsula riders, as they do not have a lot of twisties over there.
Sunday, we rode to Blanchetown for lunch via Sedan returning back to Gawler travelling through Eudunda, Kapunda and Tarlee. The re was not too much social activity after the evening meal, with the majority of us looking for an early night in preparation for the long ride home next day.
On Monday morning, James Bartsch had a health problem which required ambulance attendance. When they arrived, they advised us to utilise their Paramedic Home Care option, so we booked him into the Caravan Park for another day and he was treated later on in the morning by the visiting Paramedic.
I wish to sincerely thank John Robinson Robbo who came to the Caravan Park and looked after his needs for the day, and then rode his bike and trailer back to Yorke Peninsula. Also Lorraine, who drove James and Heather back to the Peninsula in her car. After lunch, I opted to return to Port Wakefield by riding up the centre of the Peninsula, providing a much warmer and calmer ride, but it increasing the distance of the ride a bit. It was great to be joined by three bikes from Torrens Valley; two of them were first time riders with us.
After a coffee and a welcome break at Port Wakefield, the T. Even though the ride was a bit lengthy, by taking quite a few stops it made the ride very enjoyable. Before departing for Mannum, Robert Braunsthal Guzzi Bob read a poem Old Mates Remembered that he had written in memory of our members that have ridden on.
Although the weather was extremely windy, it was a great ride and we managed to dodge the rain. After lunching at various venues, we broke into smaller groups and headed for home. We had first time participants from Whyalla and District, Torrens Valley and Fleurieu Branch es; even though they did not know Rob personally, they joined in to support their fellow Ulyssian mates.
After a few bevvies at the cemetery, we headed off to the Top Pub at Ardrossan for lunch and a bit socialising. Those who were staying overnight kicked on until tea time and the rest of us headed for home. Everybody most welcome.

Mrs Clothier said on the morning of Saturday, October 3 members would ride together through the city. Members of the public as well as members are all invited from 11am until 3pm at the gardens for an afternoon of fun. Featuring a variety of stalls, food and drink options, the club hopes to raise much needed funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service throughout the fair.
