Edit source History Talk 0. Dance Peter Cherches. Web, Sep. What I find interesting about Cherches is that I have not been able to find much trace of him on the internet, so I am essentially going into this poem blind. I enjoy this poem. Though I am not usually fond of prose poetry, I am overtly fond of minimalist style, which Cherches utilizes well. The poem is rather straight-forward; without much room for interpretation; it provides a skeletal structure for the reader to insert his or herself into the poem, which I find to be the biggest drive for the poem—it actively begs the reader to be involved.
It made me think back to my first, big infatuation and how I had always tried to forget her. The poem packs an emotional punch, to say the least. The poem reaches for emotions, and it succeeds in that.
However, it only reaches for emotions: it does not appeal much to intellect, or deeper ideas. Poetry is good for quick feelings of emotions once in a while—but those emotions are fleeting, and poems, to be enduring, need to latch onto more than what Cherches provides. This is a good poem, and it does its job, but I cannot say that it will have a long-lasting impact on me. You are commenting using your WordPress.

Put down your right arm, she said. I put it down. Put down your left arm, she said. I did. I obeyed. Put down your right arm.
Lift your left arm. I lifted it.
